YAS MARINA CIRCUIT PREPARES FOR ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX
Yas Marina Circuit is well advanced in its preparations for the Formula 1TM Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which is now just over two weeks away.
This week, workers are busy sandblasting off the paint around the track perimeter in readiness for a fresh coat, while the circuit’s trademark turquoise colour is being reapplied on the internal roads.
The Shams Tower, including its solar panels, has been freshly jet-washed and work crews are power-washing rooftops and grandstand canopies throughout the circuit. Landscapers are laying fresh turf where necessary, and race weekend direction signage is being erected around the venue.
In the oasis areas, workers are busy erecting the tents that will house a wide range of public entertainment, including health spas, nail art, race simulators, refreshments and children’s play areas. Other stands are being built to cater for live music, BMX bikers, breakdancers, skateboarding and other activities.
Track designers are preparing to map out the course on top of freshly laid Tarmac for the new Yas Kartzone, where people of 18 years and younger will be able to drive karts throughout the weekend. The track will then be open for adults and children after the event.
“The eyes of the world will be on Yas Marina Circuit and Abu Dhabi from 12-14 November and we want to look our very best,” said Richard Cregan, Chief Executive Officer of the circuit. “The level of excitement is very high, especially since it looks as if the world championship will be settled here. We still have tickets available for public sale, but they are selling fast. I would urge anyone who is interested in attending to make sure they get theirs now.”Back to news
