Just Tri! Triathlon For Everyone Returns To Yas Marina Circuit
Yas Marina Circuit today announced that registration is now open for the third annual Tri Yas triathlon, to take place on February 8th, 2013 at the F1 track.
Abu Dhabi, UAE, 27 November 2012: Yas Marina Circuit today announced that registration is now open for the third annual Tri Yas triathlon, to take place on February 8th, 2013 at the F1 track. Following a successful 2012 competition that saw over 950 compete in what was also the region’s first twilight triathlon, 2013’s competition is expected to attract up to 1200 athletes of all ages and abilities.
Al Tareq Al Ameri, Senior Director of Commercial at Yas Marina Circuit, said that in two short years, Tri Yas has become a favourite of elite and rookie triathletes alike: “Tri Yas continues to grow in popularity and scale, and in 2013, we’re expecting both record participation and attendance. Tri Yas is part of our wider commitment to foster a healthy active lifestyle in Abu Dhabi and with the range of categories available, it really has become a triathlon where anyone can come out, be active, have fun and just try.”
Encouraging participation from the wider community, experienced and aspiring triathletes can choose between competing individually or as a member of a team in either Sprint or Olympic categories. A Kid’s Duathlon, created to encourage Abu Dhabi’s young people to participate in the sport is separated into 11-14 and 15-17 year-old age groups.
Returning for his second Tri Yas, noted triathlete Omar Nour will share training hints and tips, including a suggested preparatory programme, online in the lead-up to the event. Nour will also hold a warm-up clinic for young competitors taking part in the Kid’s Dualthon on the day of the event. Abu Dhabi-based gym, Haddins Fitness will also run a preparatory training programme for both budding and experienced triathletes to encourage them to be ready for the event.
The event, sponsored by Etihad Airways, Viceroy Abu Dhabi and Sport360, will begin with a swim in Yas Marina, a run on the internal roads of Yas Marina Circuit and will then culminate in a bike ride on Yas Marina Circui’s iconic F1 track. As an additional incentive for participants, the winners of the men’s and women’s Olympic distances will receive two return flights to Washington, DC, courtesy of Etihad Airways to compete in the Washington DC Nation’s Triathlon in September 2013.
For those registering before 31 December, an early bird discount of 5% will apply. For more information and to register, please visit http://www.premiermarathons.com/event/Tri_YAS_2013 or call the Yas Marina Circuit call centre on 800 YAS.Back to news
