Lewis Hamilton was fighting for his 44th Grand Prix win in Abu Dhabi, but the number 44 was still a big part of his race at Yas Marina Circuit

Lewis Hamilton’s connection with the 44th UAE National Day has kept on giving even after the World Champion challenged closely for his 44th win during Sunday’s stunning season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, as the event kick-started the country’s National Day celebrations.

The number 44 was still a very prominent number for the three-time World Champion at Yas Marina Circuit as the Briton picked up the fastest-lap time of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, clocking a time of 1.44.517. Not only did 44 appear in his fastest lap, but Hamilton also achieved it during lap 44.

With Hamilton’s racing number being 44, Hamilton partnered with Tourism & Culture Authority Abu Dhabi (TCA Abu Dhabi) and Yas Martina Circuit to celebrate the UAE’s 44th National Day and was cheered by the home crowd as he raced at Yas Marina Circuit.

The number 44 also adorns the Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management HQ building, located right alongside the longest straight on the Formula 1® calendar.

As part of the partnership with TCA Abu Dhabi and Yas Marina Circuit, the driver also raced with the UAE colours on his helmet and gloves as he marked the UAE’s special day and helped the nation celebrate ‘The Spirit of the Union’.

If Hamilton had won the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi, it would have been his 44th Formula 1 career win too, but it was his teammate who pipped him to the chequered flag meaning Hamilton’s wait for a 44th win will now move into the 2016 Formula 1 season.
