Primary School children from across the UAE went head to head in the exciting and challenging STEM based competition at Yas Events Centre

Yas Marina Circuit yesterday welcomed 35 teams from Primary Schools across the UAE to compete in the ‘Formula Ethara’ National Finals.

The competition, which is now in its second year, was once again hosted at Yas Events Centre and welcomed hundreds of UAE school children from Grade 6 and below.

Formula Ethara was created to offer ’tomorrows champions’ the opportunity to learn valuable skills whilst in a fun, interactive and educational environment that delivers STEM and 21st Century learning outcomes.

The teams of either all girls, all boys or mixed gender teams put their engineering, technology and business skills to the test as they were tasked with the many facets of designing, testing, marketing and making their own miniature paper race team car.

As well as their designs, the teams were also judged on their team work and verbal presentation skills. The finals saw pupils demonstrate all aspects of their entries, which included team car racing, building a team showcase car, a team display and slideshow, and a team presentation.

After a thrilling day of competition, the judges awarded the National Champions – Outright title (those with previous experience of Formula Ethara National Finals) to Fast N Furious from GEMS Wellington International School, with Rocky Roads from JESS Arabian Ranches clinching the National Champions – Rookie award.

“We are once again thrilled to welcome school children from across the UAE back to Yas Marina Circuit for the ‘Formula Ethara’ National Finals,” said Al Tareq Al Ameri, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit.”

“The hard work, dedication and creativity that has been put into each team’s presentation over the past few months and on display here today was exceptional, the competition has really stepped up a gear.”

“We believe that this is a very worthwhile and important initiative that contributes to the development of the UAE’s young people.  The STEM skills that have been learnt throughout the competition will undoubtedly stand these children in good stead throughout their lives and we are honoured to support such a fantastic initiative. Congratulations to everyone that took part in this year’s competition.”
