Create engagement, dialogue and left-right brain stimulation at your events.

Held outdoors in our plant nursery, with fresh juices and fruit baskets - getting people out of the office and into nature helps shake up thought processes and the ideas come rolling in!

Globally, the meetings and events industry is changing. Joanna Bates, our Head of Events Management and Creative Expert, shares tips on Events in 2018 and how to maintain engagement, dialogue and left-right brain stimulation.

2018 EVENTS ARE ALL ABOUT ENGAGEMENT, DIALOGUE AND LEFT-RIGHT BRAIN STIMULATION

Globally, the meetings and events industry is changing. Engagement is the buzzword on everyone’s lips and clients are demanding more from their Event Planners to increase attendee interaction and improve ROI.

Traditional, one-way conference formats of keynote speakers talking at an audience for hours on end are being replaced by interactive content that is focused around keeping attendees engaged, interested and stimulated to make the messages ‘sticky’ and importantly earn people’s attention.

Yas Conference Centre is all about doing Business, just not as usual. Check out these ideas to make your next event engaging and share with us yours!

CREATIVE FLOOR PLANS ENCOURAGE CREATIVE THINKING

I think we can all agree that a banquet chair is not the most comfortable piece of furniture to spend a day sitting on. At Yas Conference Centre, we are seeing much more creativity in furniture options and floor plans, planners are considering ’Instagramable’ options that are fun and creative. Yas Conference Centre has a huge inventory of alternative options for clients to consider and a talented team of event staff who will coordinate furnishings that will work for a client’s agenda. Much to the delight of delegates, we’ve used hammocks, colourful sofa’s, bean bags, fit balls, rocking chairs and even swings!

Sli.do TO DRIVE ENGAGEMENT

At Yas Conference Centre, we LOVE Sli.do for its ability to engage the audience and open up the conversation. Delegates access Sli.do via the browser on their smartphones and can use it to ask questions anonymously, vote in polls or respond to questions from the speaker. This insight increases interaction between the speaker and their audience and allows them to re-direct the conversation to what is most relevant to the attendees.

MINDFULNESS AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY FOR A MORE RECEPTIVE BRAIN

Meetings and conferences are becoming more ‘people’ orientated. We are seeing meditation rooms and pre-conference runs organized at industry trade shows and conference meetings like IMEX and M&I Forum. Event Planners are recognizing the importance of Purposeful Meetings, centred around attendees, and are creating mindfulness zones or integrating physical activity into their agendas to help reduce stress and improve concentration. Yas Conference Centre offers DDR package upgrades of pre-conference yoga, cycling around Yas Marina Circuit, or a designated meditation room with guided mindfulness sessions.

PUSH FOR DIALOGUE WITH CATCH BOX

Catch Box is, essentially – a throwable microphone in a padded cube shaped cushion. Instead of running a microphone between attendees to ask a question, you simply summon your best Cricket skills and throw it to them. The results are astounding. The Catch Box converts a bored and unengaged audience into a smiling and laughing group of people desperate to see who will drop the microphone in front of everyone. We love it so much we’ve invested in two!

ENLIGHTEN YOUR EVENT - NATURALLY

Planners want venues with natural sunlight, it's hard to keep meeting attendees engaged in a darkened ballroom with no windows. At Yas Conference Centre, every single venue space has plentiful natural light, we even go one further and offer outdoor workshops under an umbrella by the Marina to allow delegates to take advantage of the sunny UAE weather.

COLOUR IS KEY

Researchers agree that delegates think more creatively if they are immersed in a creative space. The above photo is of one of Yas Conference Centre's Creative Meeting Spaces. Moving away from heavy greys and blacks and injecting some colour can help improve concentration, focus and promote creativity.

TAKE IT OUTSIDE

LET US ENTERTAIN YOU

There is a lot to be said for treating delegates to some light entertainment during conference breaks. Not only does it help disrupt the monotony of conference content, it adds to a relaxed atmosphere more conducive to mingling and networking. A DJ playing with a saxophonist, a photo booth, or an activity like Yas Marina Circuits Pit Stop Challenge are great corporate entertainment options. Have you heard of Mash Machine? It's a fun and easy sound system that allows the delegates to become the DJ. The good news? Yas Conference Centre has one of these too. ;-)
