ABU DHABI RACING ENJOY SOLID START TO 2021 F4UAE CHAMPIONSHIP

THE FIRST ROUND OF RACE ACTION TOOK PLACE AT DUBAI AUTODROME

ABU DHABI RACING’S HAMDA AL QUBAISI SECURED TWO PODIUM FINISHES

ABU DHABI, January 20, 2021: Abu Dhabi Racing performed well as the opening round of the 2021 F4UAE Championship took place at Dubai Autodrome.

There were 14 drivers from 11 countries taking part in the first of five rounds, in which there were three new single-seater race winners crowned.

Abu Dhabi Racing’s Hamda Al Qubaisi, the most experienced driver in this year’s competition, performed consistently in qualifying and recorded a third-place finish in the first race behind Xcel Motorsport duo Enzo Trulli and Dilano Van’t Hoff.

The race was red flagged at the end of the fourth lap after Pepe Marti, another Xcel Motorsport driver, spun and crashed on the penultimate turn, and while his car was left in pieces and on fire, thankfully the Spaniard was unharmed.

Al Qubaisi, who became the first Arab woman to win a championship open-wheeler race in last year’s competition, finished fifth in the second race having looked on course for a podium finish for long spells after moving into third during the opening lap. Van’t Hoff secured a maiden victory after leading from start to finish.

Al Qubaisi started Race 3 in second position on the grid, behind Van’t Hoff, and produced an impressive display to finish as runner up having led briefly early on, with Van’t Hoff recording a second successive win.

With the grid for Race 4 made up of the top eight finishers from Race 3 reversed, Al Qubaisi started in seventh, and while she drove well throughout, the young Emirati had to settle for a sixth-place finish, with the contest won by Xcel Motorsport’s Kirill Smal.

Now in its fifth year, each round of the 2021 F4UAE Championship will rotate between Dubai Autodrome and Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit.

The second round of race action takes place at Yas Marina Circuit on January 21-23.

This year’s Formula 4 UAE Championship will come to a conclusion on Saturday 13 February.
